What to ExpectDuring your first session we will review your completed informed consent, background information, and HIPAA paperwork. After reviewing your paperwork, we will discuss what brought you to therapy.
During this initial session I will ask about your medical, mental, social, and relational health to gain a complete picture of what is going on in your world. In the first few sessions we will collaborate to create realistic and meaningful goals for your treatment and set up a plan for the duration of your therapy. We will continue to work together to reach your goals at a set time, day, and frequency agreed upon by you. It is important to know that as your therapist, I do not give "advice," but will empower you to grow, heal, and change. I will provide support and guidance when it is necessary. Therapy can be an extremely beneficial yet challenging process. It takes active participation from you and a willingness to be vulnerable and honest. My purpose is to provide a safe place for you to heal, to be able to communicate openly without fear of judgement, and to work through difficult transitions in your life and relationships. Your therapy is unique to you and there is not a fixed time to be finished. It is an ongoing process that ebbs and flows. It is common to feel worse before feeling that things are getting better as you begin to confront issues that may have otherwise been avoided until this point. We will continually evaluate our time together to ensure the effectiveness and relevance to your goals. |
